"My father is a coal miner. I only saw him when he came home from work, because he left very early in the morning. He would come home covered in oil and coal dust and soot, so I would say to my mom, "Is my daddy a black man?""

Kentucky's Courier-Journal - October 11th 2003
Gayheart relishes her roots - by David Walton

When she was 15, Pinetop's Rebecca Gayheart decided to leave her Kentucky roots in search of fame and fortune in the Big Apple. What began as a stint in modeling eventually became a successful career in TV and film for Gayheart, now 31. We caught up with the blue-eyed beauty — once dubbed the 'sexiest woman on the planet' — while she was vacationing in Florida.

Do you prefer being called Rebecca, Becky or just plain sexy?
(Laughs) You are too funny. I would have to go with Rebecca, although I love when my family calls me Becky. That's what they called me growing up.

We're sure you get sick of being referred to as the "Noxzema girl," so we'll take your former spokesmodel gig to the next level. Tell us about your first zit.
(Laughs) You really are too funny. Thank God, I have no recollection of my first zit.

There are a good many photos floating around in cyberspace of Rebecca Gayheart showing quite a bit of skin. Have any snappers ever tried to pull a Cameron Diaz on you?
Absolutely. When I was modeling, they'd be like, "Take your clothes off," especially in Italy. It's just something I don't feel comfortable doing. I've done a lot of photos where I appear to be naked — and "appear" would be the key word.

Do you ever poke around on your fan sites?
I have seen a lot of them. But to tell you the truth, it kind of freaks me out. It's a little weird. Sometimes, they know more about me than I do!

Why did you leave the Showtime series "Dead Like Me"?
It was something I kind of knew when I went in to do the pilot and then, you know, the three episodes ... that I was going to have to leave because I had some other commitments. But there's always the possibility I may go back.

How is Rebecca Gayheart's love life these days?
(Laughs) Gee, I don't know. Tell me, what are they saying? I'm not with anyone right now. I'm single.

Do you make it back to Kentucky often?
I was just in Owensboro last weekend for the Gayheart family reunion. So I was with 70 of my family members.

Tell us about your house in Los Angeles.
I'm homeless. I sold my house, and I'm looking for a new house. I actually put everything in storage, and I'm renting a place until I find a new place to buy.

Would you ever let MTV's "Cribs" invade your digs, or is Ashton Kutcher's "Punk'd" more up your alley?
I think "Punk'd" is more up my alley. That's a great show, and it's hilarious.

Speaking of Ashton ... would Rebecca Gayheart ever pull a Demi Moore?
I'm not old enough to answer that question!
